Your Q4 calendar is already full. GivingTuesday, the year-end appeal, DAF Day, and the peer-to-peer campaign your board chair saw somewhere and now wants to run. That's a lot of motion.
But none of those campaigns decides whether you hit your number. Five to fifteen people do. For most organizations at your size, a handful of major donors make up the difference between a good year and a scramble in January.
So which of those donors are ready to give?
If you have to think about it, you're guessing. Guessing in Q4 goes wrong in one of two ways. You spend ten weeks having coffees with the wrong five people, and nobody makes an ask because "we're cultivating." Or you skip the right donor, and she gives her year-end gift to someone who asked.
You have the donors. You don't have a way to tell who's ready.

✅ Your year-end plan is mostly campaigns, and the major gift asks are "whenever the timing feels right"
✅ You could name your top five donors, but you couldn't defend why they belong there
✅ You've had the same donor on your "cultivating" list for two years
✅ You can't say, in the donor's own words, why your biggest givers give to you
✅ In January your board will ask what major gifts will bring in next year, and right now your honest answer is "we'll see"
What You'll Walk Out With
Five names. A reason for each one. Or a clear "not yet."
You'll leave with a short list of the donors most likely to say yes by December 31, and you'll know why each one made the list. You'll also see which donors are only on the list because they gave last year. You'll know where to spend the next ten weeks, and where to stop spending them.
That's not a hunch. That's a sprint plan.

Campaigns bring in volume. Major gifts bring in the year. Most teams put 90% of their Q4 energy into the campaigns and hope the big gifts show up at the end. We'll flip that ratio.
Calling the wrong five costs you a quarter. Skipping the right one costs you the gift. We'll put real numbers on both, so you can explain the tradeoff to your board.

Giving history tells you who could give. It doesn't tell you who will give this year. I'll show you how to tell the two apart, and why most "top prospect" lists are really a list of nice people.
